Scripture for Today

Genesis 24:5-6  The servant said to him, “Perhaps the woman may not be willing to follow me to this land. Must I then take your son back to the land from which you came?” 6 Abraham said to him, “See to it that you do not take my son back there. (ESV)

There was a promise from God to Abraham. He had led him out of his Father's house so he would bless him and make him a father of many nations. Now it was time for Isaac to have a wife, he sent his servant back to the land of his birth to get a wife for his son. The servant wasn't so sure if the woman will come to the land of Canaan with him so he needed to atleast have an idea of a plan B.

Abraham rebuked him as fast as he had spoken, "Make sure you don't take my son back there". This is a warning to us as single believers. On no account should you go back to the land God has taken you out from because you seek a spouse. Seeking a life partner can be a very confusing and it could be a time so many Christian singles contemplate going back to their old ways.

To many, God might just be too slow, why is he taking so much time to lead the right man or woman to me? Some feel that going back to the world will make them have answers but it never is. On no account should we go back to our vomit because we seek a life partner desperately. Living a double standard life because you don't want to be lonely is never the way out.

As singles we should embrace Jesus who is the author and the finisher of our faith. Even when it seems you might be this way for a long time. Just know that God is working mightily behind the scenes for you. He loves you too much to leave you alone and hanging for life, he just has a lot of project he is working on in your life. Trust him!

Prayer: Father, in my moment of desperation help me remember you want the best for me always.

  1. Nice one ma. Our single days are as important as both our marriage and all other days. Misplaced priorities is one among other reasons why we find ourselves at the door of desperation.
