LEADERSHIP MEANS SERVANTHOOD

Scripture for today

Matthew 20:26-27 AMP
Not so shall it be among you; but whoever wishes to be great among you must be your servant, And whoever desires to be first among you must be your slave–

"Servant" in our English New Testament usually represents the Greek doulos (bondslave). Sometimes it means diakonos (deacon or minister); this is strictly accurate, for doulos and diakonos are synonyms. Both words denote a man who is not at his own disposal, but is his master's purchased property. Bought to serve his master's needs, to be at his beck and call every moment, the slave's sole business is to do as he is told. Christian service therefore means, first and foremost, living out a slave relationship to one's Savior (1 Corinthians. 6:19-20).

Leadership entails having to serve others not having to boss them around like we see in our current society. So many times we get so entangled and feeling that the world has to revolve around us and our very needs as leaders. Leadership is servantship. Having to give ourselves totally to meet the needs of other people who we are leading. Leadership is a lifestyle of having to work with others with love and with a heart of sacrifice.

Leadership takes a heart of humility, a humble and down to earth heart is all we need.

Prayer: Father, give me the grace to lead effectively.
