Scripture for today

Matthew 18:21-22 At that point Peter got up the nerve to ask, "Master, how many times do I forgive a brother or sister who hurts me? Seven?"
Jesus replied, "Seven! Hardly. Try seventy times seven.

The story of Gomer and Hosea is a very popular love story. So many times believers refer to it as a justified reason why a believer can marry an unbeliever. That story is a true story of our love affair with God.  You remember it was a perfect example of our relationship with God. We went far away from him and with his love he still brought us back to himself. Again and again we leave him yet he brings us back to him. Love opens a door to us being vulnerable and open to hurts and offenses.

Jesus loves us greatly, he gave himself up for us. We hurt him severally but he still keeps forgiving us.  If he can forgive you and look away from the hurts you have brought upon him. Why can't you simply forgive someone who hurt you?
God has only one requirement before we can receive mercy or forgiveness. When you still hold people in your heart, you cling to all the little things they do to you. You're just limiting yourself from receiving the fullness of God's mercy.

I understand how painful it is to forgive. Someone hurts you badly you just wish you could draw blood. Sometimes they are not even sorry, but I have to forgive them out of love.
Forgiveness makes us powerless, we seek vengeance but God hasn't given us that luxury. He said Vengeance is his. So I admonish you that you let God wage your war. Do your own part by forgiving.

Prayer: Lord, help me forgive with the whole of my heart.
