IDOLS CHRISTIANS WORSHIP: MAKE-UP

8:43 am

LOVE LETTERS|DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR SINGLES|DAY 235

Scripture for today

2 Kings 17:15 ASV
And they rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he testified unto them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and went after the nations that were round about them, concerning whom Jehovah had charged them that they should not do like them.

Do you have make up at all in this house? I asked for the 3rd time that morning. I had an unplanned sleepover in my girl friends house and I didn't come along with my make up.  I couldn't just imagine going out without having full make up on my face. I looked myself in the mirror and was so unsatisfied. "I look ugly" I said out loud for my friend to hear. She has known me for a long time and has always known I had a very intact self esteem. She never knew me as someone who relies on make up to define her so she said out loud "Isn't that an idol?".

So many times when I read the scripture about idols, I would not take deep thought of it. Now I do, sometimes as Christians their are some things we bow down to without us even realizing it. It could start as little material things, little things we feel we can't just do without which do not have eternal value. That day, I walked out of that house without make up repenting of my sins. Now get me right, God didn't say it was wrong or a sin. He made it clear that I was relying so much on those unnecessary things which where so unimportant to him. I should rely on God to look beautiful, he has made me crazily beautiful and that is all I need.

Earthily Beauty is vain. It is vain because real beauty come from above.

Prayer: Help me Lord never to bow my head and heart to any idol.
